RECOLORING EXERCISE (PART 1)
Instructions:
Recoloring Exercise (1) Instruction slides
I first chose a skin colour, then covered the face area. Then
changed the blending mode to soft light. I did the same with the hair.
RECOLORING EXERCISE (PART 2A)
Instructions:
Recoloring Exercise (2) Instruction slides
First, I copy pasted the skin and hair colour reference photo into the B & W file. Then eye-dropped the highlights, mid-tones, and shadow.
Next, I used quick selection tool to select the hair and proceed to refine the mask. I then filled a new layer with the hair colour and masked it to the hair with soft light blending mode. Then I did the same for the skin, eyes, lips and clothes.
I decided to turn up the saturation for the skin colour as it was to pale and grey.
Lastly, I Masked all the layers and then fill the background in a greyish blue, applying colour burn.
Final Outcome
RECOLORING EXERCISE (PART 2B)
Instructions:
Recolor an image from the drive provided.
Skin and hair colour reference from Pinterest.
First, I eye-dropped the skin and eye colour.
Then, I quick selected the face, refined, and added in the colour. I also added in colour for the eyes, eye white, lips, and teeth. I gave her some eyeshadow to enhance her look. All this was done using the soft light blending mode.
Next, I coloured her hair, ring, and cigarette. I used soft light for all but the ring was done with screen.
Lastly, I kept the background black but added brown soft light to make the whole image more cohesive and brighter.
4. REFLECTION
Giving colours to the images was a fun activity but also a gruesome one because trying to match the colours were not easy. Making it look realistic is even harder. Though after playing around for a long time, I was happy with my results. This task helped me learn more about masking and recoloring.
