3.1. RESEARCH
After looking through all 3 headlines, I decided to go for Bauhaus! I
want to focus more on the word 'role' and 'Bauhaus' as Bauhaus is
undoubtedly the main focus for this body text.
Bauhaus: “Bauhaus” literally translates to “house of
building,” which was derived by inverting the German word Hausbau, or
“building of a house.”
- Key tenets of Bauhaus design include form follows function and less is more
- The style is characterized by a lack of ornament and a focus on clean lines that reduce forms to their essential elements
- Bauhaus design, art, and architecture often features simple geometric forms such as circles, squares, and triangles

3.2 IDEATION
Since Bauhaus design focuses more on basic shapes and clean simple
designs, I want to focus on bringing out the shapes to show an
impactful yet simple design showcasing the style of Bauhaus. I
decided to use the 3 main shapes, circle, triangle and square.
Fig 3.2.1 initial draft layouts of my design
After some feedback, I decided to revise my 4th design and sketched another design as I felt like the 4th one still did not sit right with me. I liked the design but the readability was a problem.
Fig 3.2.2 2nd draft layouts of my design
As I till wasn't sure, I consulted Mr. Max, which he agrees the 4th design is still not easily readable and recommends to tryout the 5th design instead. But gave some pointers on how i can improve that one.
DIGITALIZATION OF SKETCHES
Fig 3.2.3 initial digital draft of my design
For the 3rd design, I had to edit the layout as the body text was unable to fit in the initial layout. Even if it did it was too cramped and hard to read. It being in the gutter was not great as well. So I removed the square and changed to lines only.

4. FEEDBACK
Week 6:
General Feedback: Start on the sketches for Task 2 and have at least 4 sketches.
Specific Feedback: First 3 designs are good, can proceed to digitalizing but will have to revise the 4th sketch.
Week 7:
General Feedback: Finish up and digitalize all 4 sketches, Print out your digitalized drafts for easier feedbacks.
Specific Feedback: The 4th design was still to confusing even after revising, 5th sketch looks better but should simplify and make the design neater for readability.
Week 8:
General Feedback: Remember to revise and finalized all designs and choose 1 for final submission, including baseline grids.
Specific Feedback:
1st design approved.
2nd design the best, but need to resize the word "thought" to match "on" so that the headline looks more consistent.
3rd design, circles were not taken from the text so will have to be removed. Give the body text more space and flip the up down orientation of the 2 columns to enhance reading hierarchy.
4th design is good. Circles need to be removed, The "O"s can be use to make circles, showing more of Bauhaus style. Body text need to be rearranged to fill up space.
After editing, all approved, 2nd design chosen as the final design. Can now be exported for submission.
5. REFLECTION
Experience
This task challenged me to utilize the knowledge I learned from Task 1 and merge it into one design. I had fun designing the different ways the headline could be arranged or altered. I experienced on how to arrange layouts for type.
Observations
I learned that layouts do not need to rely on external elements like shapes. It was difficult to not resort to geometrical shapes to complete the design. However, I'm glad I was able to do well without them in the end.
Findings
Balancing the body text and the text expressions was hard yet a good experience I can use if I ever wanted to design spreads like magazine pages.

11.11.2024. PG 4-7
The introduction talked about how technology allowed typography to become more mainstream starting from 2007. This book also mention that it will cover every aspect of typography in breadth instead of depth, which I believe will be helpful for me as a beginner.
