LECTURE

Week 5

We were given a lecture on basic editing in sound soft-wares.

1. layering

2. Time Stretching
stretch audio without changing pitch

3. Pitch Shifting
low pitch has more bass

4. Reversing

5. Mouth it!
this is not recommended to use for this module.

WEEK 5 EX.

After learning, we had an exercise to use what we learned.

1. Deep Rich Explosion
2. Punch Variation
3. Alien /Monster Voice

1. Deep Rich Explosion

First I imported the original audio twice. For the first one, I added EQ, increasing base and clarity. I then duplicated it, lowering the pitch to give the initial explosion more depth.

I wanted to add on a more dramatic effect, so I used time stretch to elongate the explosion, as well as add a reversed version of the explosion as a build-up. To smooth it out, I made the audio fade in and out.

The sound effect turned out too loud so I added hard limiter to lower the volume.

2. Punch Variation

I decided to do a simple combo. Using time stretch to make the punch sound faster and shorter, I created the first 4 quick punches. To make it seem like it's punching harder in the 2nd half, I added Base with EQ and lowered the pitch.

Afterwards, I imported in the original audio as the last punch. By increasing bass, lowering pitch and adding reverb, the final punch sounds more heavy.

Finally, I felt like it wasn't dramatic enough so I used time stretch to stretch the original and make it sound like the punch is ringing after the final heavy punch. Using the same effects as Track 5 but with a fade out. I also added hard limiters so the volume was too much.

3. Alien/Monster

This was a chance to experience with the fun effects so i want to do both alien and monster. I started with reversing the sample voice then splitting it up to resemble a conversation between 2 creatures. The last audio was stretched so it sounds like the monster is saying no.

After playing around with Chorus, Phaser, Flanger and Pitch Shifter, I was satisfied with the result. To balance out the audio, I used hard limiter.

EX 2.

This time, we were also given a demonstration before being tasked to do sound shaping with the downloaded audio.

EX 4.

After learning, we had an exercise to use what we learned.

FEEDBACK

REFLECTION

Week 5

It was really fun especially when editing the alien/monster voices. I'm glad we got to learn so many tools in audition. But it would still take me more time to remember where the tools are.
