Flip Topic 1: Different types of infographics and online tools (Group Task)

The first task was to do group work and create a short and simple slide together on the types of infographic, then present it during class. This is what we researched and done.

Flip Topic 1: Different types of infographics and online tools (Individual Task)

For the next task, we were told to choose a bad infographic and redesign it. To start with, I chose the infographic and a few references that I can use as reference.

Fig.1.2. Flip 1 Bad infographic and references

The infographic is a step by step instruction on introducing a kitten to existing pets. It's simple and the design is not bad but I think the steps can be clearer. The font is a little too much and has repeating info.

The monospace font on the current design is difficult to read so I chose a bolder and more readable monospace font. I also kept to the same colour palette but focused on red and off white to create contrast for easy reading. I also summarized and gave a title to each step so it is easier to follow. Making the numbers big leads the viewer's eyes easier.

The old illustrations were good but it was too low resolution for me to reuse, so I just photobashed irasutoya's illustrations to create the new illustrations.

Rating & Reviewing the online tool "Canva"

Canva is simple to use with an already available gallery of elements to utilize. The wide variety of customizable shapes and lines allows for quick and easy designing even for new users. The UI is straight forward and allows for easy navigating.

However, the shapes are all presets only and there's a limit to customization. So unless you get creative with combining the elements, it is difficult to get exactly what you were imagining. Next, the selection of fonts is wide but you cannot upload your own fonts, so you will have to look for a similar one in the existing font gallery in Canva.

EXERCISE 1.

Quantify and Visualize Data

Information must be presented as is. You are required to arrange the objects  with relevant indicators written out with pens to help you visualize the quantity and data.
Take a picture of the final assembly and upload into your Google Drive folder.

Sorting and Arrangement:

I decided to choose star beads as my material. I first sorted them and write down the statistics.

Drafting and Feedback:

I made a few different arrangements and settled on the diagonal ones as it is less overwhelming to the eyes. I took a picture and sketched the overall position of words and numbers on it. As well as some colours to categorized them.

Feedback: Mr. Kannan said that the colours are not obvious enough and that the presentation overall is not clear.

 Fig.2.5. EX 1 Final

I made the final version on paper by drawing lines and splitting the materials between 3 coloured lines, black, Gold and Silver. I used red to specify the material and colour category. I also highlighted the textt of each colour group.

EX 2.

L.A.T.C.H
[Location / Alphabet / Time / Category / Hierarchy]

Organize a group of information into a visual poster that combined and utilizes the LATCH principles (min. 4

Requirements:
Size resolution: 1240 × 1750 pixels or 2048 × 2048 pixels

Theme Chosen: Hilichurls in Mondstadt from Genshin Impact

I only chose a specific area and a species of enemies so that it will not overcomplicate the infographic.

Notes:

Location: Mondsadt
Time: Respawn Rates (24hrs/none)
Category: Physical, Anemo, Cryo
Hierarchy: Special, Elite, Common

References:

 Fig.4.1. References

I first traced out the map of Monstadt in Ibis Pain X then did a sketch on top. Afterwards, I moved to Illustrator to input all the elements and text. I also created all the shapes and elements needed with the vector pen tool. The colours and font all follow the UI and style of the game to give it a clean and official look. Just like a game guide.
