KINETIC TYPOGRAPHY

For our second project, we were tasked as a group to create a lyric kinetic typography of a song. Since our group had many different interests we decided to settle on a popular English song that isn't too mainstream. We voted for Save Your tears by The Weeknd and Arianna Grande.

We discussed on how to split the lyrics and worked on an animatic for our own parts. A teammate helped decided on a moodboard. Then our leader created a sheet to show our seperated parts better.

We decided to choose the font Oswald and Frisans Std Black. Before moving on, each of us made an animatic and I helped compile everything to see how it looks like connected.

While waiting for my groupmates to complete their parts, I worked on my own as well. My part is intro and the ending chorus.

For the ending chorus, I wanted to use Li Wen's Chorus parts as base and add on extra effects or variations as it repeats the same line for 5 times at the end.

I tried to challenge animating the tear drop in after effects. I used shapes, puppet tool and transform to create the keyframes.

After everyone's parts were completed. It was time to compile everything. I was in charge of compiling. So after receiving everyone's files, I looked through to make sure there were no mistakes and timing discrepancies. if there are, I will edit or improve some parts so everything looks consistent.

After all parts are completed I compiled everything together and exported. However it was lagging and the exports had glitches. So I exported all the compositions as mp4 and tried again, but it still had no luck.

In the end, I just switched to premiere pro to complete the rest of the edits and exported again there. After 3 hours of painstaking exports it finally uploaded to the drive. While one of my teammates uploaded to youtube, concluding this project.

EXERCISE 4.

Chart Animation

Based on the assigned charts we got, we are suppose to animate it. I recreated the chart as vector then animated it. We learned how to use trim paths and applied it here.

Character/ Vector Animation

Same as above, we were also assigned vector graphics to animate.  The one i got was "D".

I separated all the layers I needed in Illustrator then imported it to after effects.

 Fig.2.3. Separating Files

I pre-composed all the parts separately to avoid confusion. I wanted to make everything feel alive so I used scale, rotation, puppet tool and position to make everything move naturally even after it popped out. The constant movement will help make it look less stiff.

FEEDBACK.

Week 4
We were told to add more beats and elements to make things interesting, but keep it simple if we run out of time.

REFLECTION.

I enjoy animation and so this assignment was really fun for me. The only part that fustrated me alot was after effects. It was very laggy and crashes very often compared to other softwares. Other than that, I'm glad I managed to finish everything great despite all the exporting struggles.
