INSPIRATION & BLUEPRINTS

I already decided that I was going to make a weapon. However I haven't decided what weapon I should make. So I started searching for a few things I want to make. I was torn between a pistol or staff. After thinking, I feel more motivated to create an unconventional weapon.

PROCESS

I started with importing the reference image for front and size since this object has assymettrical parts.

Fig 1.4. Staff Body

I used bevel and edge loop tools to create an oval in the center. I joined the vertex and extruded inwards to create a dent for the gem.

For the looping vines. I first made a cylinder then kept extruding while adjusting with rotation and grab tool. After it was at a good shape, I added bevel on a few edges to smoothen out the twists.
Fig 1.6. Creating Vines

Since it's 3D, I followed the side reference to adjust the vines. So it looks like its looping. I then duplicated the object and rotated it to make 2 vines looping.

For the spinning wheel, I used the same method we used to make wheels in previous classes. I made a circle then inset to delete the face inside. Using bridge edge loops to close it.

Since it's 3D, I followed the side reference to adjust the vines. So it looks like its looping. I then duplicated the object and rotated it to make 2 vines looping.

Fig 1.9. Adding subdivision modifiers

I then added subdivision surfaces. For parts that aren't sharp enough, I added edge loops to sharpen then.

Based on the reference, I first worked on X axis then move to Y axis to fix the width. Then I only added the details with extrude and adjusting the topology where its needed.

Finally, I added a black room to create a moody atmosphere inspired by maleficent. I added a window on the left. Then added sunlight coming in the room. I lowered the temperature for the area light to create the mood.

Fig 1.12. Lighting

To make things interesting, I added a neon green light on the tip of the weapon like the original.
